Changing jobs for the first time

What an absolute ball-ache. And this is just me changing from one part time job to another over the summer whilst I’m off uni – I can’t imagine what it’s like doing this on an actual full time scale when there really is a lot riding on it!

I’d been in my old job since near enough the second I turned 16. I was super shy and had basically no experience with the ‘real world’. 4 years later, I was confident at work, had been given lots of responsibility where I was working and has made some really good friends. But at the age of 20, I figured it was time to add something else to my CV and give myself a new challenge. Plus my new job is within walking distance to my house so it’s super convenient!

I was surprisingly calm on my first day (I’m usually a nervous wreck over the smallest things) but I really managed to just enjoy it. Getting to know a new group of people, be in a different environment and just try something new. Seeing as I’ve never changed jobs before there was a few challenges I hadn’t anticipated…

First of all? P45s. I’d only ever heard of them before, and I knew that you got them when you left a job, but I didn’t know how you got them or what to do what you do with them. Well it turns out you get them in the post, after a rather long wait, and after you’ve had to pay emergency tax because you didn’t have your P45 yet. And then you give them to your new employer, who will probably deal with it as slowly as the last one did.

I’d also forgotten what it is like not being totally up on who’s who at work. It’s important to suss out as soon as possible: who’s shagging who, who you can trust, and who you should avoid revealing even the smallest details of your personal life too. Even on a more professional note, learning a new chain of command and what issues are who’s problem – if that makes any sense at all.

But it’s only been a fortnight, and I think I’m doing alright at the role itself. Will keep you posted xxx

Room tour-ish

So I just decorated my bedroom back home ready for when I move for the summer at the end of this university year (here’s to living at home till I’m 50 thanks to my crippling student loan, am I right?) so I thought I’d share. As you’ll have learn if you managed to get to the end of my 50 questions TMI tag, grey is my favourite colour, so that’s what I wanted for my room. My old room had all sorts of colours (and wholes in the wallpaper from a previous post obsession in my early teens – High School Musical, I’m blaming you). So I just want to create somewhere light and airy if that makes sense, where I can go next year to escape my dissertation!

Here is my bed before…

And here is bed area after!

Brighter right? I’ll include a few more ‘after’ pics below, but probably not anymore ‘before’ pictures cause you know, embarrassed! I’m thinking of introducing a house plant somewhere, they’re supposed to bring calming energy or something right?

What I WON’T be blogging about…

Seeing as I’ve been a bit vague on what this blog will involve, maybe I can shed some light by being a bit more specific about what it won’t involve…

  • Whilst I would like this blog to have a lovely, Instagram-worthy aesthetic, I am terrible at photography I’m doubtful there’ll be any of that.
  • Makeup guidance. I love makeup, but unfortunately, no matter how many tutorials I watch my skills don’t seem to quite be taking off, so I may give you my thoughts on some products that help me achieve something half decent, but I’ll spare you any advice presented in the way of ‘tutorials’.
  • Selfies/outfit posts. I’m really not a selfie person. I wish I was more comfortable taking photos but I’m not. I haven’t uploaded to Insta for 18 months and my FB profile picture is over a year old. I’ll probably post one when I next go all out for a big occasion (and use that picture across all my social media for another 18 months).
  • Fitness advice. I love to workout, most of the time, not because of the workout itself but how much better I feel after. But I know nothing about it and am in no position to share any ‘wisdom’ I think I might have!
  • Cooking/recipe posts. I love food. I wished I love making it, but with the half a fridge shelf I have for storage at university my creativity has died when it comes to food. I also have a slight ready meal habit – oops.So there we go. Just a little list of things I know nothing about and will try not to subject you to my very limited knowledge!

PS – I’m trying to bang out a few posts so if anyone does find this blog, there’ll be a couple of posts for you to actually read! I’ll try post maybe twice a week once things get settled!

First post

Hello. Welcome.

First post. First one’s always the hardest right? I guess I should tell you what this blog is about and why I’ve started blogging.

I’ll start with the second question. I’ve been thinking about blogging for a while now. I did want to blog my time at university but as I’m coming up to my second year that’s gone a little bit out of the window! I guess I was kind of too embarrassed to blog before, but I don’t know why or what I was embarrassed of so that’s a bit of a pants reason.

And now, what am I going to be blogging about? Everything, nothing, not too sure. I have a lot of opinions! Just whatever comes to mind, and hopefully it amuses a few people along the way.

So if you made it to the end of this post, thanks very much. I hope you stick around & enjoy what’s to come.
